Of course, the first stop was at the Nirvana Coffee Company recommended by our Mainest Hostess. She was spot on; this was our second stop there in two days.
Gorgeous New England Morning
Nirvana is like...well...nirvana!
Garmin Electra (the lady that lives inside our GPS and works feverishly to plan our routes) has been treating us royally up to mid-route this AM. For some reason she couldn't find a path to Maine from Cape Cod that didn't include Boston. Talk about a bummer! Even though today was Sunday, Boston is no saintly place to travel. Once we got through its metro-mess, the drive up ninety-five was brisk and alive.
We took our sweet time sparkling with expectations of the best lobster roll for miles around at the Ogunquit Lobster Pound. But, as luck would have it, it didn't open until 5pm. Almost dying of starvation and drowning in saliva, we settled for second best at Jakes Seafood. While scrumptious, our second lobster roll of the trip was not as good as yesterday's. Guess we'd better keep trying.
Once off the Interstate in Ogunquit, the pace slowed and the scenery perked up. How do you define Maine's magic?; perfect weather, no agenda, beautiful scenery, and your love to keep you warm. Here's a few of the highlights when we had a chance to snap a few shutters:
Bike race in Barnstable
Springtime on the Cape
Nice little New England Cottage
Beautiful Weather
Quaint Kennebunk
We're pumped to call Saco Maine home for the next month. We drove by the Rocky Hill Farm which is our Mainestay till early June. It's in the country, as you might expect. And, it's not terribly unlike the farm in Kentucky as far as proximity from groceries, shops and other creature comforts.
We've made a great find already! Just about 1-2 miles from the farm is the Way Way. What's a "Way Way" you say-say? An AMAZING ice cream store of course. The owner has been to Wichita Falls and two others on the staff are either from Texas or have friends there. Small world; ain't it? Anyhow, the owner is happy as a gopher in soft dirt just to own and operate the Way Way. When asked for his flavor recommendation, he answered, "Maine Maple Walnut," after which he gave me several reasons why. His Maine criteria was the pure Maine Maple syrup. There's no nasty artificial flavor in Way Way ice cream. I asked for the medium size and watched as he went to work in the back room. After the sixth scoop I quickly calculated I had just purchased practically a pint of pure perfection. The price: $3.99. Fortunately, he's only open on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. He gave us a punch card to ponder until Friday, the 12th rolls around. Did I say the 12th? Am I counting the days? Naaww!
A shout out to Pete for her recommendation of a cargo net to help with the wind noise generated by our cargo carrier. It works like a charm!
Keep those cards and letters coming!! We can use all the help, information, suggestions and advice you can throw our way.
Can't go wrong with coffee in Nirvana ;-)
