Day 46 - Portland Passage

Wow! Portland is a cool town. We took a trolley tour and learned much about the city and its history. I wish we had made more photo stops, but hey...now we have a reason to go back!

We learned that Portland's first two major industries were wood/lumber and shoes. Now it's tourism; so where are you? Come on up!

Also, Maine harvests about 1.3 million pounds of Lobsta per year. But don't get your hopes up on getting a lobsta fishing license; the wait is currently over 20 years. And fishing protocol is very strict and mostly locally imposed.

Some of the old architecture:

My Maine Squeeze

Harr...Matey

Looks like any Regency we've ever seen...right?

Portland's answer to McDonalds

Our tour began at the wharf area:

Great place for lobsta lunch

So where's the Iliad??

The tour took us to the most photographed lighthouse in the country. Hmmm...can anyone guess why?

Portland Head Light - WOW!!

Hey, Rob S - I did find cobbler in Maine - Lobster Cobbler - Ha!!

Lobster Cobbler - Yum!!

More to come...

  1. Loved the pictures of the lighthouse.
Reminded me of Portugal just on the other side of the water.
