Day 11 - Krazy Kentucky Kontrast

Wow! What an amazing day...

The picture above was taken at Buffalo Trace Distillery between 11:00 am and noon; gorgeous, warm, cloudless day. We toured the Kentucky Kountryside and generally basked in the beauty of an 81 deg. day.

We were back home by 4:00 pm or so and watching some light clouds drift into the area. Somewhere between 7:00 and 8:00 pm winds started howling, rain started pounding on the metal roof of the barn apartment and our phones started howling with tornado "duck and cover" warnings. The message on the phones read: "Dude, a tornado is in the neighborhood so head for shelter now!" (I paraphrase)

Now, don't get me wrong, here; neither of us was freaking out or anything like that. I will say it was a bit unsettling, nonetheless. We vacillated between watching the radar on our phones, trying to find a local TV station, looking up what county we are in, and analyzing the best area of the barn in which to ride out the tornado should it decide to drop by. We decided the cinder block wall/alley that leads out the back door into the barn proper was out best bet.

By 8:30 all was quiet on the Kentucky front. But, that's not the end of the story. This morning we awoke to 42 degrees and clouds. The high today is forecast at 47 dropping to 34 tonight. So...today's a great day to revel in the fact that I have my trusty guitar and my beautiful bride by my side. Tomorrow promises to be a sunny, but cool afternoon to begin the Keeneland Racing season.

  1. Do not like tornadoes. Frustrating to be fighting the proverbial 300 pound gorilla. You cannot win.
Glad all was well in the end.
