After an amazing Kentucky Hot Brown and some taste-tempting pot roast, we strolled around Bardstown just taking in the sights.
We drove about a mile from downtown and engaged our 7th or 8th distillery tour. This time it was Heaven Hill where Elijah Craig and Old Fitzgerald are crafted. We learned even more to expand our understanding about the brash, bourbon brew. Our preferences are the wheat varieties as opposed to those that feature rye. The wheat blends have more of a fruity taste while the rye mixes have more of a "burn." They call that burn a warm "Kentucky Hug." That's that tingly finish you feel that slides down your throat and into your stomach. Our favorite brand/blend is still Woodford Reserve Double Oaked.
Heaven Hill is perhaps the oldest and largest distillery in Kentucky:

Well...after a beautiful ride home, we settled in to watch the Masters final round. As we were enjoying the broadcast, I decide to check my phone for messages. Our good neighbor Bill had texted me; hmmm...
Bill requested that I call him so the old heart was racing a bit as I dialed. Bill explained that he had spied some Blackmon Mooring trucks at our adjoining neighbors townhouse. Good neighbor and great friend that he is, he checked to see what was up. Seems our neighbor's place was flooded on the entire ground floor, The BM guys and been working on the problem for some 3-4 hours.
We asked Bill to inspect our place just in case and...
...as luck would have it...
...seems the leak generated from our hot water heater. $&#(!#*@!!
Interestingly, our awesome grandson, Logan, was to make scheduled stops by our house just to check in. Turns out he arrived just shortly after Bill and so now I had reports from two trusted friends and family members. The guys turned off the water in our house and mopped up to control the damage. We contacted our insurance company and have reached out to our good neighbor who was affected. While we don't know the final outcome yet, we're weighing the pros and cons of returning home and whether we will continue our adventure. Hey...shit happens...right? It's just stuff and stuff can be repaired and replaced. We'll know more after our son assess the damage later tonight. In the mean time, We'll be pulling for Sergio at the Masters!!
Sorry to hear about your water heater problem.
ReplyDeleteWe had the same happen to us and the critical thing to do is remove the carpets and dry the place up as soon as possible.
We were traveling at the time and managed the whole thing remotely. Our daughter was at home to let them come in and have access to the house.
When we came back we then started the painting, choosing carpets etc ...
We also spoke to the insurance company and got them to approve a longer process.
Good luck with your decision.
