Day 7 - Every day can't be great...

We took our time packing and gearing up to leave Murphy. It was a great place and we will likely return. Who knows...we may drop by on our way home this trip.

It was a brisk morning with temps in the high 40s and low 50s. Add to the equation a cloudy day and cruising along at 50-70 mph and...well...it was certainly a chilly experience. We back tracked a time or two mainly because we weren't ready to ride any more gravel than necessary. So, before you know it we had jumped on to I75 north to Lexington. Big Mistake!!

As many of you know, we're huge devotees of backroad travel. Had we been loyal to our calling, we'd had been much better off today. So why the game changer, you ask? Well, as I mentioned it was cold. We thought we'd shorten the day by 1 1/2 hours by riding on the Interstate. After all, we've been looking forward to getting back to Lexington and the farm apartment far too long.

Turns out there was some kind of mishap on the Interstate that essentially stopped traffic. We thought we'd outsmart the masses and took some backroads that turned out to be filled with like minded entreperneural thinkers. Long story short, we were delayed between 3-4 hours. Yep, 285 miles took 8.5 hours to traverse. So...kick back and relax, you say. We tried that, but after my left hand cramped from holding the clutch and the bike nearly overheated from sitting in dead-stopped traffic for 3 hours...
...well, never mind. You get the picture. But, hey. Into every life a little rain must fall. We got here safe and sound and are nicely snug in our Kentucky get-away. Tomorrow is supposed to be a beautiful day!

Good night one and all!

  1. Sorry to hear that.
That is one of the reasons I am a great believer in lane splitting. Bring on a bike in a traffic jam is not fun.
